Experience has shown that no matter how well finished a shaft may be, a small amount of helix is always present.  This works to our advantage as this helix causes a slight rotation of the Scraper Ring with each stroke.  Subsequently, the slot in the Scraper Ring continually moves circumferentially about the shaft, never letting the dirt enter at that point. Adapters are provided either with or without pre-punched holes to fix the adapter to an end cap or gland.

Installation of the Hydro-Wype scraper ring is a simple two step process. Typical installation time on a production line averages less than 2 minutes. During field preventative or tear-down maintenance, this time may marginally increase.

Installation using the Hydro-Wype Adapter.

In situations where the Hydro-Wype scraper ring is to be retrofitted to an existing cylinder configuration, or installed on a new cylinder without modification to accommodate the ring, Gad-Jet's provides an external adapter. By using the adapter it is possible to easily and inexpensively position the ring out-board of the cylinder, thereby acting as a guard against the intrusion of foreign matter into the seals and packing.

To fix the adapter to the cylinder, it is only necessary to drill mounting holes through the adapter into the face of the cylinder end cap, bushing or flange plate, using 3 or 4 self tapping screws, machine screws, bolts or existing bolts to hold the adapter firmly in place.  The correct clearances have been provided in the Hydro-Wype adapter to allow the scraper ring to float both radially and axially, compensating for any misalignment in the shaft.
