SAFE PRACTICES FOR HANDLING OF HYDROWYPE SEALS

The construction of metal seals and in particular, metal scrapers employs materials and geometries that could, unless handled with care, result in injury. The scraping edge of a metal exclusion seal is sharp by necessity. Most exclusion seals contain springs and pre-loaded components that generate significant forces. For these reasons, all common sense and practical caution should be applied to the handling of Hydrowype seals. Oftentimes, Hydrowype parts may be re-packaged for final shipment to a customer and may or may not be shipped with accompanying warnings. But in any case, we strongly recommend the use of appropriate PPE including protective gloves and eyewear when handling any metal, polymer or compound seal.

RoHS & REACH Compliance

Wherever possible, Gadjets attempts to supply only products that conform to all government regulations, in all jurisdictions, for all health and safety requirements. However, certain customer and government (e.g. US DOD) product requirements, such as for parts that are Cadmium plated, may impact our ability to only provide such products. Please be aware that first and foremost, Gadjets provides products that are conformant to the stated part specifications. It is assumed that customers are aware of the contents of the specifications that are called out on requests for quote, purchases orders, prints and other specifications, and the implications with respect to compliance with RoHS, REACH and other regulations. For example, if a customer requests a part supplied by Gadjets should be conformant to MS28876 I/A/W MIL-5049, the customer will be aware that Table 1 materials include those that contain regulated materials such as Beryllium, Cadmium, certain Chromates and Lead and should verify that the concentrations thereof do not exceed any regulations that apply for the geographies wherein the parts are to be distributed, transported and used. Also that if certain conformance tests are required to be performed that prescribe the use for example, of Mercurous Nitrate (e.g. internal stress testing of materials), small amounts of residue may be absorbed by and remain within the structure of the tested material. We offer material certs, free of charge to all customers upon request.

European Environmental Legislation - RoHS 2011/65/EU

The RoHS Directive is a European Environmental Legislation with the intent of limiting the amount or presence of hazardous substances in electronic devices. Six substances: Lead (pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+), Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE) have been identified as those who's content must be limited.

Lead is allowed in steels up to .35% by weight 6(a) and aluminum up to .4% by weight 6(b) with copper up to 4.0% by weight 6(c). With rare exception, our current products are compliant to the RoHS Directive. Copper and Brass Sales is a distributor of raw metallic materials and as such cannot sign a blanket statement stating everything purchased from our inventory is Lead Free. If our customers request product with a higher lead content, we can supply the item, but the customer must assume responsibility for those items specified / requested. Please refer to the Material Test Report that accompanies all shipments to verify chemical content and compliance.

Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical Substances

(REACH) REACH is a European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe usage. This law went into effect back in June of 2007. The general purpose of this law is to protect humans and the environment from intrinsic chemical substances.

Copper and Brass Sales is a distributor of metallic raw materials that are produced by other manufacturers. The components of these materials (articles as defined by this legislation) do not intend or expect any of the listed components to be released as part of the design. Consequently, such products are considered exempt from the pre registration and registration under REACH.

As a courtesy to our customers, we have included the most recent "Candidate List" for substances identified by REACH (Rev. June 15, 2015). Please go to the following link for a breakdown of the substances.

Cadmium Plating

Cadmium plating is not RoHS compliant. Although clause 8 of the Annex of the original RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC) granted an exemption allowing cadmium plating to be used in some aerospace applications and other safety critical applications, the current Directive no longer allows any exemption for cadmium plating. Cadmium is also a REACH SVHC and cadmium plating on any metal wipers will always exceed the allowable REACH threshold of 0.1 % of article weight.
